The Troop had such a wonderful time at Burlingame State Campground on September 27-29! We had 13 boys and 9 dads participate as we camped, sat around the fire, played games, ate delicious food, and enjoyed God’s beautiful creation.
On Friday, we kicked things off with our opening campfire where the dads entertained Trailmen with songs, stories, and a wonderful testimony. On Saturday morning, the Navigators got right to work cooking everyone a delicious pancake breakfast. After raising the flag, Trailmen learned about the basics of camping—setting up and taking down a tent, proper tent maintenance, proper tent location, and the like. We then played a game of four corners followed by hearty cold cut sandwiches for lunch.
After a brief rest period, we got right back to work learning knife safety. Our Mountain Lions earned their Woodsman Card and the Navigators got nearly all of the requirements for their Woods Tools Trail Badge. In the afternoon, we headed up the road a some good ol’ game of Capture the Flag. The Red team was just too good as they won four games.
We did have two (minor) injuries, a car needed jumping, and some lost car keys. But the keys were found, the car battery restored, and the two injuries on the mend. Thanks to God for sustaining us and for allowing us to have such a wonderful and blessed weekend.
After a very brief rain shower, we got out the cooktop again for some burgers and roasting dogs over the fire. We then retired the flag, and ended the day with our closing campfire. This time, it was the Trailmen’s turn to serenade the dads. There were so many great songs, jokes, and even a skit! On Sunday morning, we packed things up, had a brief breakfast, and headed out to church.
