January was our first-ever Serve in Love project. Serve in Love is a nation-wide Troop-recognized program where Troops serve their community through service project. For our inaugural year, we worked with Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island in making welcome cards for refugees, immigrants, and others in need.
We first heard from Emily from Dorcas who spoke about the organization and how it helps those in needs. We also learned the importance of serving our community. We then got busy making welcoming cards to be distributed to the people that Dorcas works with.
After making cards, we learned the value of Teamwork by completing a challenging activity. Each team had to cross the “hot lava” with only a limited number of “magic shoes.” It was great to hear Treailmen discussing ideas and working together to solve this tremendous problem.
